  1. Between Globalization and Glocalization

The aim of the study is to confront the theoretical inspiration for interaction between globalization and localization with possibilities of using the strengths of these relationships at the local level. The inspiration for this was the author's confidence that they are not sufficiently used in comparison to the needs of taking into account in the process of strategic planning and management. In the first part, against the background of the origin, essence and different understanding of glocalization, its relationship with globalization is presented. In the next part of the article, where different faces of contemporary glocalisation are shown, there is a kind of bridge between the layer of the theoretical and practical aspects that are the subject of the third part, which presents good practices in the use of opportunities arising from globalization. In the conclusion, problems requiring further study and research are presented.
  2. Economic Growth and Financialization

It is about ten years from the beginning of the biggest crisis in the world's economy after World War II. Most often the crisis is looked at as being generated by the financial sphere. This is the reason why new and not orthodox ideas on the links of financial and real spheres are more and more popular. One of the most popular ideas is financialization. The main goal of the paper is to present financialization and to answer the question of can financial sector development reduce economic growth?
  3. Diversity of Socio-Economic Develompent Countries and Regions of the World - a Macro Perspective

The aim of the study is to identify the diversity of socio-economic development in the world in some selected countries. Macroeconomic data such as GDP, GDP per capita and GDP growth, inflation and unemployment are presented. In addition, searching for the causes of this diversity presents the amount of investment and savings in the countries studied, as well as the level of HDI. The choice of countries was dictated primarily by geographical variations and curiosity research; therefore, there are a group of selected countries with different economies in different regions of the world. The test period covers the years 1990-2015, although there are also references to the beginning of the twentieth century.
  4. Economic Conditions of a State's Failure

In the article the author has made an attempt to examine the impact of selected economic indicators on the probability of a state's failure. The concept of a state and its failure is introduced at the beginning, followed by a presentation of some failed states over the last few years. In the next part, using the Cox model, an analysis of the impact of five economic variables (initial and average level of GDP per capita, average level of economic growth, inflation rate and resource curse) on the probability of a state's failure was performed. The analysis covers states established in 1960 and afterwards. It was proven that GDP per capita and average economic growth significantly influences the likelihood of failure.
  5. The Importance of the Mining Sector for the Economic Development of sub-Saharan African Countries Using Angola as an Example

A significant part of Sub-Saharan African countries are specializing in the extraction and export of natural resources. In most of them the resource curse or visible symptoms of the Dutch disease occur. One Sub-Saharan African country, Botswana, managed to avoid the negative effects of the phenomenon. In the next three - Angola, Mozambique and Rwanda - positive changes in economic development have been reported in recent years. The paper presents the results of an assessment of the economic development of Angola in the context of the occurrence of the resource curse in the years 1995-2014.
  6. European Union Funds as a Factor Supporting the Sustainable Development of Rural Areas

The phenomena of sustainable development occurring in the Polish countryside in recent years can be analysed in the economic, social and environmental dimensions, which are the key elements of the concept of sustainable development. The implementation of this concept requires a systemic approach and the support of desired directions of activities. The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential use of European Union funds for supporting the sustainable development of rural areas. Two EU programmes are the object of analysis: the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 (RDP) and the Wielkopolska Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020 (WROP). RDP is contributing to the realization of the sustainable development concept of rural areas and agriculture mainly through projects carried out in agriculture, WROP - mainly through projects carried out around agriculture. The aim of all the priority axes, actions and adopted objectives of the programmes is to support the implementation of Strategies of the sustainable development of rural areas, agriculture and fishing 2012-2020.
  7. Equalising the Income of Municipalities as a Precondition of their Sustainable Development?

Sustainable local development can be funded with municipalities' own fiscal revenues. However, municipalities vary in terms of their income generating capacities, so their own revenues and expenditures on their own tasks per capita also differ significantly. Excessive differences between local self-government units have a negative impact on the sustainable development of a country. Therefore, state authorities can establish a fiscal equalization mechanism. A study of municipalities in the Wielkopolska region proved that the general subsidy reduces the discrepancies in the revenues of municipalities by over 60% and thus increases the possibility of municipalities financing the tasks undertaken in order to actualize the idea of sustainable local development.
  8. The Diversification of Scales of Horizontal Gender Segregation in the OECD Countries

The aim of the paper is to evaluate the scale of horizontal gender segregation in highly developed countries, belonging to the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development. Moreover, the paper assumes that the scale of this phenomenon differentiates the analysed countries and the observed changes are barely dynamic. The time scope of the empirical study covers the period between 1990 and 2014. In the first part, the paper presents a cluster analysis, which is significant to make an exact classification of the OECD countries in respect of occupational gender inequality. Secondly, the paper shows the employment pattern according to gender and economic sectors as well as the amount of feminisation. Next, the paper takes into consideration and evaluates the diversification of scales of horizontal gender segregation in the clusters of the OECD countries. To sum up, the most important conclusions and recommendations are shown.
  9. The Diversity of the Intensity of Foreign Migration (with the Example of Voivodeships in Poland)

The aim of this paper was to identify and assess of the intensity of foreign migration for permanent residence in voivodeships in Poland in the years 2004-2014. The paper consists of three parts. The first part is an introduction to the issue of migration flows. The second part presents absolute and relative measures of the intensity of migration flows. The last part of the paper is an empirical analysis of the intensity of foreign migration in voivodeships in Poland. The analysis hypothesis in the study is the following: voivodeships in Poland characterised by the diversity level of the intensity of foreign migration for permanent residence. The research presents, that voivodeships, which are characterised by the highest intensity of foreign migration for permanent residence were: śląskie, dolnośląskie and opolskie.
  10. Procyclicality of Labour Productivity in Polish Regions in 1995-2013

The procyclicality of labour productivity is one of the basic stylized facts of economics. The aim of the paper is to analyse the procyclical properties of labour productivity in Polish regions in the years 1995-2013. In the theoretical part, a critical analysis of the literature is used to identify the possible determinants of the analysed effect. It was found that three of them are usually mentioned: technological shocks, increasing returns to scale and labour hoarding. In the empirical part, an assessment of labour productivity procyclical behaviour was performed. The obtained results confirm that labour productivity in some Polish regions is procyclical.
  11. Unemployment amoung Young People in the Wielkopolska Labour Market

The main goal of the paper is to present and assess the situation of young people in a regional perspective in comparison to Poland and other European Union countries in the years 2004-2015, with particular reference to the Wielkopolska Voivodeship. The paper defines the concept of young people, and then shows the problems that they face in the process of the transition between education and the labour market. The level of unemployment among young people and their share in the population of the unemployed total were the subject of interest in union, national and regional terms. Finally, the total situation of young people in Poland in comparison to the other EU countries was presented, and more specifically in the Wielkopolska region in the years 2004-2015.
  12. Specialisations of University Graduates and Changes in the Labour Market in Wielkopolska

Creating a knowledge-based economy and cooperation in the conditions of globalization and economic integration has led to changes in the labour market; this has led to changes in the situation in higher education in Poland. Adapting the offer of Polish universities to the demands of employers is an expression of the implementation of the educational aspirations of future employees. The aim of the paper is to compare the processes of the change taking place in the specialisation's structure of study at universities with changes taking place in the labour market in Poznań and Great Poland. The research indicates the changes that have occurred in the structure of graduates's specialisations and in the structure of the labour market, and then focuses on the analysis of the intensity, speed and monotonicyty of the process of the adaptation of these structures in 2008-2014.
