Given that Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and related information technologies are a large component of high-performing healthcare systems and there remains very little progress towards territorial, provincial, or national EMR systems, this rapid review seeks to understand the outcomes associated with EMR use, the barriers towards implementation, and strategies for encouraging adoption.
The paper is divided into three parts devoted to the following: the place of economics among the sciences; the views of selected Polish economists on the formalization (mathematization) of economics; and the formal (mathematical) scientific procedures used in economics today along with departures from these procedure and the potential consequences of such departures. After the first two parts of the paper, characterized as reviews, the third presents a very general scheme of the mathematical approach to economic problems as well as departures from this scheme. The problems of departures can be divided into two groups: the first being the mathematization of problems that do not need such an approach, the passive assumption of schemes appropriate for other sciences, the passive usage of various algorithms and the various computer programs used. Secondly, the paper discusses the potential consequences of such departures on the results of scientific research.
This paper presents an overview of the normative and descriptive approaches to corporate finance. Particular attention is paid to the descriptive approach, namely empirical finance, which is connected with the widespread use of information technology and access to a large volume of financial data. Through empirical financial analysis constant progress is being made as regards the verification of the assumptions and conclusions which stem from neoclassical concepts. However, empirical studies in the area of corporate finance require proper preparation in respect of such econometric methods. (original abstract)
The aim of the article is to assess the degree of sustainability of the public finance sector in Poland. Such a research goal is accompanied by the following research hypothesis: high values of primary deficits make it impossible to stabilize the level of public debt even in the long run. The analysis uses the concept of the so‑called fiscal sustainability indicators proposed, among others, by Buiter, Blanchard, Rudin and Smith. Reference was made to the Ponzi scheme in the context of the state solvency. The study used data from Eurostat and the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission. The data come from the period 2001–2017. Forecasts for 2018 and 2019 were also used. The results for Poland were compared to the values for all EU countries.
A considerable and persisting diversity of the development levels of Polish regions makes it necessary to seek potential causes of this phenomenon. It can be presumed that some of the diversity is caused by institutional qualities, characteristic for each individual region, including the dynamics of the reallocation of resources available in a particular region, which can be identified with the creative destruction processes, indicated by J. A. Schumpeter. In the view of these facts, this study aims at identifying the mechanisms of creative destruction processes and assessing their influence on the levels of regional productivity of labour in Poland, in the 2004–2015 time period. The conducted analyses showed that the correlation between the measures of creative destruction and the labour productivity is ambiguous and limited, as it was confirmed for only a part of Polish regions. For the remaining part, contrary to the theoretical assumptions, a reverse relationship was observed, i.e. it is the dynamics of productivity that affects the level of reallocation of resources, identified with the processes of creative destruction.
Artykuł prezentuje nowe spojrzenie na znaczenie i funkcje muzeum regionalnego wobec zmian mających miejsce w świecie współczesnym. Zmiany te dotyczą samej filozofii człowieka, którego rola coraz mniej postrzegana jest w kategoriach supremacji wobec środowiska naturalnego, a coraz bardziej relacji równorzędności. Dalej, ma miejsce pomniejszanie roli państwa narodowego na rzecz społeczeństwa globalnego, poszerzając zarazem przestrzeń dla lokalizmów kulturowych, w tym regionalnych i mniejszościowych. Lokalizmy z kolei wykraczają poza sferę etnosu, obejmując swym zasięgiem podziały kulturowe z porządku typologicznego. Kryteria opisu osobliwości kulturowych wychodzą poza ramy afirmacji własnego dziedzictwa, skupiając się zarazem na jego ciemnych stronach. Te i inne procesy pociągają konieczność redefinicji misji muzeum regionalnego, którego wszak naczelnym zadaniem pozostaje eksponowanie genius loci, ducha miejsca, w którym muzeum funkcjonuje i którego ma wyrażać.
This article concerns a fragment of research interests of the ethnographer from Lodz – professor Jaworska. In fact, Jaworska neither created the methodological theory of doing an ethnographical field research in a rural socio-cultural context nor the special theory connected with rural study, despite the fact that the most important area for her (in terms of science as well as her personal interests) were the Carpathian villages and the type of pastoral economy. The author of the text analyzes the letters of Jaworska written over 40 years, which reflect Jaworska’s attitude to her mountain field work carried out there as well as to the area itself.
