Based on the background of a brief overview of the most important changes in higher education in Poland, which has significantly influenced the position of academic teachers, an attempt was made to answer the question of whether the ideas and preferences of academic teachers associated with their profession are in line with the expectations of students. The research was based on selected results of a survey of the professional identity of academic teachers (2013) and a survey of study the motives and the evaluation of classes (2007 and 2010). The teachers' beliefs on the main goals of a university and declared preferences associated with their professional roles were compared with students' expectations represented by reasons to study and their opinions concerning participation in university classes. 4. The Professional Identity of Academic Teachers at the Poznań University of Economics and Business and Their Teaching Competence

The issue of teachers' professional identity is not new as it has been widely discussed in a number of scientific papers. However, it is still topical, given the changing social, cultural and economic reality and the resulting expectations of the university's various stakeholders. The aim of this paper is to discuss the professional identity of teachers with special attention given to their teaching competence, declared by research (scientific) and teaching experts. With regard to the goal adopted in the paper, we will discuss the classification of the professional roles of an academic teacher and we will attempt to describe aspects of their professional identity and attitudes of teachers concerning the tasks resulting from the roles they play. I also intend to identify the way in which areas of research and teaching influence each other and what teaching competence (reflected mainly in the declared approaches to teaching) the teachers who are research (scientific) experts have and what approach to designing and conducting classes with students the so-called teaching experts prefer. In order to accomplish the above goals, I will use the results of the survey carried out among academic teachers of the Poznań University of Economics and Business.
  5. The Teaching Satisfaction of an Academic Faculty and Phd Students

Despite the fact that job satisfaction is an area that is very commonly researched, it still continues to fascinate. The purpose of this article is to present the results and conclusions of a study on teaching satisfaction of an academic faculty and PhD students, with a particular emphasis on their position at the university. The roles of an academic faculty cover several areas of activity (teaching, scientific and organizational), but this article focuses only on the activity of teaching. Whereas interest in job position stems from the fact, that it is one of the important factors that determines the level of employee satisfaction.
  6. The Involvement of Academic Teachers in Business Activity (Poznań University of Economics and Business Example)

Cooperation of the academic world and the business one is not an easy thing and it faces many obstacles, mainly of an organisational and financial nature. The needs and aspirations of both sides seem to be completely different. During last 30 years, the Polish economy and Polish enterprises transformed qualitatively and quantitatively. Foreign capital, new technologies, methods of production, and knowhow have been just a few of many factors which have caused business development. The academic sector in Poland has also changed. That is why there is a significant need to provide a steady university - business relationship and interaction. Of course, it is still hard to find the answer for the question concerning both sides' advantages of that cooperation and its determinants. It is worth considering, who is interested in that kind of relationship. In the article, the authors focus on academic teachers' needs and expectations concerning cooperation with the business sector. They make an attempt at finding the determinants of involvement in undertaking business activities. The data obtained during the empirical research conducted among academic teachers of the Poznań University of Economics and Business are presented. They are also a basis for creating and indicating the "be-in-business-integrated-indicator" (Zintegrowany Wskaźnik Ubiznesowienia, ZWU), which would measure the level of business activities undertaken by academic teachers. Basing on research data and analysing the literature, many problems in the academic and business sectors were diagnosed. Therefore, in the last part of the article, advice and solutions which could strengthen the collaboration between academic and business sectors are presented.

The aim of this article is to analyze the distribution time of academics especially in the context of the time division between professional and non-professional tasks as well as the balance between academic work, teaching and administration. The article introduces the problems of time management. The empirical part contains a presentation of the results of research conducted among academics of the Poznań University of Economics and Business in November 2013. The analyses show that academics have a high focus on professional activity. The proportion of the use of time indicates a priority to perform tasks related to teaching and scientific work, with the significant participation of organizational duties. In practice, it often comes to the reallocation of time for science activity to fulfill teaching duties, accompanied by a feeling of underestimation, especially in their teaching.

In addition, the study revealed a negative relationship between the amount of time spent on teaching work and the effects of scientific activity.
  9. The Concept and the Reality of Evaluating Teachers by Students

The article is devoted to the issue of the evaluation of academic teachers carried out by students. Legal obligations to carry out all the higher education institutions creates the risk of giving control operations which are only formal in nature. Included were: eclectic status assessment, the lack of representativeness of surveys and questionnaires' inadequacy of assessments in relation to the specificity of teaching.
